The aim of the dissertation examination is to demonstrate knowledge in the field. The student must demonstrate general knowledge of the sub-fields of the field. At the same time, he must demonstrate that his knowledge in the selected field corresponds to a deeper interest in the selected issue and therefore goes beyond the standard content and scope of the subjects of the given level of study. The chairman of the committee, the guarantor of the study programme, or the guarantor for the relevant field, will determine the literature that the student must study for the needs of the dissertation examination. The educational part of the doctoral study ends with the dissertation examination.

The condition for completing the course is the completion of a 2-hour/week consultation course focused on deepening knowledge of advanced statistical methods according to the course syllabus. Graduation is conditional on the acquisition of practical skills in the design of a method and implementation of statistical processing of research data, which the doctoral student will acquire through quantitative research (pre-research) on the topic of the dissertation or the topic of the doctoral student's research focus. After processing and interpretation, the proposal is submitted and consulted with the teacher with the aim of jointly evaluating the correctness of the statistical procedures of multivariate and multidimensional statistics. The student receives the assessment after fulfilling the participation conditions and after successfully defending the statistical processing and interpretation.

The content of the course is based on selected psychological knowledge of cognitive psychology, psychology of emotions and motivation, personality psychology, developmental, social, educational psychology and health psychology. Teaching is realized by a combination of lectures with interactive, experiential methods, discussion, open communication with mutual respect, support of independence, activity and motivation of students. The outcome is a written project proposal and its oral defense before the instructor. Evaluation is based on the proposal's comprehensiveness, application of interdisciplinary approaches, feasibility of scientific objectives, timeline, budget considerations, and correctness of project solutions. Successful completion of the course is contingent upon the preparation and defense of a written work, encompassing the theoretical foundations and social policy frameworks applied to the dissertation topic, with a required length of one author’s sheet. The theoretical foundations aim to integrate the knowledge of social work and social policy theories with the issues examined in the dissertation, thereby establishing a common applied framework.
Assessment is awarded based on meeting the attendance requirements and the successful defense of the scholarly text.

By preparing and publishing a monograph, the doctoral candidate demonstrates a high level of competence to identify, evaluate, apply and disseminate relevant scientific methods and methodologies in the field of study. He/she has the competence to find and define a scientific problem using scientific methods, and to apply them critically and creatively.

The condition for completing the course is attending 8 hours of consultation-based teaching per semester, focused on enhancing students' ability to apply scientific and research knowledge to real social work practice, according to the course syllabus. Completion is contingent upon preparing an assignment—in collaboration with a selected social work practice organization (depending on the topic of the dissertation or the research focus of the doctoral student)—in which the student analyzes, based on theoretical knowledge, activities suitable for social work practice, the competencies of various practice components, influencing factors, and barriers preventing the effective performance of practice. The student will also learn standard procedures derived from scientific theories related to a specific area of practice, prepare an evaluation plan for the selected area of social work practice, and propose adequate and effective procedures and activities. After completion, the assignment is submitted and discussed with the instructor. The student receives a grade after fulfilling the attendance requirement and successfully defending the assignment.
