The course builds on the foundations that the PhD student has acquired in the Master's study programme in Criminal Law and Criminology, as it represents a deepening of knowledge in the application of the results of criminological research in practice, not only in crime control, but also in the development and application of criminal law institutes. As a result, the PhD student will be able to orientate himself/herself in the above-mentioned issues, and respond to legal and other related issues or problems in the field.

Czechoslovak criminal law in the interwar period of 1918-1938 was based on the former Hungarian and Austrian criminal law. The ideological foundations of the basics of criminal liability were based on the partly different approaches of Austrian and Hungarian law. The individual doctrines gradually evolved and changed; both in the interwar period of the Czechoslovak Republic and in the post-World War II period - when the state of legal dualism was overcome and two common criminal codes were gradually adopted (1950, 1961). By passing the compulsory elective course, PhD students should gain a deeper understanding of the individual periods in the development of criminal law, with an emphasis on the development of the individual institutes of criminal liability, which form the basis of substantive criminal law even today. PhD students will become acquainted not only with the theoretical knowledge of the normative regulation of the institutes in question, but also with the development of criminal law jurisprudence and the decision-making activity of the Supreme Court. The awareness of the historical context of the foundations of criminal liability - on which the current criminal law is based - is also a prerequisite for the acquisition of (specific) skills of a PhD graduate.

3. The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms
4. Respecting fundamental rights as one of the values of the European Union and the judicialisation of the process of compliance with these values by the Member States.
By completing this course, the doctoral student should understand the dynamics of the evolution of the European Union from an economically oriented international organisation to an entity that manifests an intention to respect fundamental rights and which, in this respect, also influences the States that form its constitutive element.

By passing this course, the PhD student shall acquire knowledge on the issues of international criminal law, its historical development, significance and principles, as well as on the issues of international criminal justice and ad hoc international criminal tribunals. The course builds on the foundations acquired in the Bachelor and Master programmes in Criminal Law and Public International Law, while deepening the knowledge of crimes under international law, the principles of international criminal law, the jurisdiction and adjudication of the International Criminal Court, and the relationship between international and domestic justice. As a result, the doctoral student will be able to orient himself/herself in the above-mentioned issues, as well as to respond to legal and other related questions or problems in the field.

1. General personality law; subjects, object, limitations of rights. Theoretical background of private law protection of personality rights, legal regulation, definition of terms, basic characteristics. Protection of the personality of a natural person (absolute and relative persons of public interest).
2. The right to life and health. The right to honour and dignity. Right to privacy. The right to a name. Right to one’s own image and manifestations of a personal nature. Protection of personality in the context of freedom of expression, the right to information and the protection of personal data.
3. Violation of the right to protection of personality; liability. Legal means of personality protection. Post-mortem protection of personality.
4. Liability for damages and immaterial harm. Compensation for immaterial damage and decision-making activity of general courts, the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic, the ECHR. Determination of the amount of immaterial damage and enforceability of the right in matters of personality protection. Compensation for immaterial damage and electronic communications.
The course focuses on the analysis and comparison of the protection of personality rights at national, European, and international level. In addition to the basic legislative framework, students are confronted with key case law in this area. The essence of the course is the discussion on current theoretical and practical, substantive and procedural issues relating to, for example, the compensation of immaterial damage to a surviving relative or in the case of interference with personality rights in medical procedures, etc. It also focuses on the current problems of enforceability of claims for immaterial damage.

To give students basic information on European and international intellectual property protection. The course focuses on the analysis and comparison of the protection of the results of human creativity not only in the EU but also in the world and its translation into national legislation. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, a state of legal dualism was in force, inter alia, in civil and criminal law. The concept of Czechoslovak law in the interwar period of 1918-1938 was based on the former Hungarian and Austrian law. One of the main objectives of the unitary state in the field of law was to overcome legal dualism and to adopt new, common codes. These processes were only completed in the post-World War II period - when the state of legal dualism was overcome. Civil and criminal law were unified/recodified in the framework of the legal biannual ongoing at the time. Passing of the elective course will enable PhD students to gain a deeper understanding of the process of unification of the legal order of the Czechoslovak Republic. PhD students will become acquainted not only with the theoretical knowledge of the preparation and course of unification work that resulted in the adoption of the new codes of civil and criminal law, but also with the development of criminal and civil law jurisprudence. Being acquainted with the historical context of the development of the basic branches of the legal order is also a prerequisite for the acquisition of specific skills of a PhD graduate.

By passing the course, the student acquires the skill to apply an analytical, synthetic, and comparative approach to the perception of the essential elements of the delimitation of administrative and criminal offences through the related case law of administrative courts in order to acquire advanced knowledge of the legal discipline related to criminal law (administrative law) in the related problematic (administrative law of sanctions). Primarily, the student will become familiar with the scientific examination of the legal regulation and decision-making practice concerning administrative sentencing actions with potential subsequent impact on criminal proceedings in the event of a reclassification of an act to a criminal offence and vice versa. The teaching includes identification, examination of the causes and legal solutions to the legal-applicational deficiencies in the application of the right
of defence in proceedings concerning an administrative offence, with particular emphasis on block proceedings as a type of summary offence proceedings, followed by a scientific examination of the legal position of a person injured by an administrative offence and a person injured by a criminal offence, with comparative conclusions leading to de lege ferenda proposals, the gradual establishment of a scientific examination of the criminal and administrative law aspects of the right of a witness under the age of 18 to refuse to testify, and finally, the knowledge and scientific approach to legal reasoning in the application of criminal law analogy in administrative offence proceedings under the Code on Administrative Trial Proceedings in the context of the administrative courts case-law.

The dissertation is the result of the student's own scientific research. It must not show elements of academic fraud and must meet the criteria of good research practice defined in the Rector's Decision no. 21/2021, which lays down the rules for assessing plagiarism at Pavel Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and its components. Fulfillment of the criteria is verified mainly in the training process and in the process of job defense. Failure to do so is grounds for disciplinary action

Implement effective educational methods and techniques into the teaching of professional subjects, tailored to the needs of university students. Conduct pedagogical diagnostics, assess students' progress, and apply appropriate evaluation methods to improve learning outcomes. Analyze and reflect on one's own teaching process, identify areas for improvement, and enhance the teaching of professional subjects, including the rationalization of the time and content structure of teaching. 3. Publishing in journals and the evidence of publishing activity: Citation/scientometric databases Scopus and WoS, their focus, search options and differences from databases providing EIR including journals, predatory journals.
4. Electronic Information Resources (EIRs): General databases, Special legal databases. Information on producers or publishers. Setting own rules for publishing.
5. Publishing activities at UPJŠ: registration of new publications, content and formalities of publications, publishing procedure at UPJŠ, DOI allocation, Open Access issues.
By passing this course, the student should be able to identify legal and ethical limits in publishing, be able to search for sources, identify journals, and master basic scientometric indicators. At the same time, he/she should have knowledge of the publication procedure within UPJŠ.

1. Legal and internal regulation of the university and the faculty related to education at law faculties.
2. Basic theoretical knowledge of education in higher education, especially with regard to teaching in law faculties.

I.1 Law-making as a process of producing legislation (law-making in the legal and sociological sense, theoretical analysis of the law-making process, legal regulation of the law-making process in the Slovak Republic and selected countries of the European Union);

I.4 Theoretical foundations of judicial law-making and its application in the Slovak Republic;

II.1 Legislative-technical design of a draft legislation (elimination of legislative-
technical errors);
II.2 Preparation of a legislative plan (based on the student's choice);
II.3 Preparation of a draft legislation of the student's choice and its presentation at a

II.4 Opposition of draft legislation submitted for consultation by other students;

By passing this course, the PhD student shall acquire further knowledge on substantive criminal law, deepen the theoretical knowledge of the science of criminal law, and acquire a broader scientific and theoretical knowledge of selected criminal law institutes, understand their very essence, their interrelationships and links. The course builds on the foundations that the PhD student has acquired in the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in substantive and procedural criminal law, as it deepens the knowledge concerning the direction of the state’s criminal policy; punishment, as well as the decision-making practice of judicial authorities with reference to internationalisation and Europeanisation of criminal law. The aim of the course is to give PhD students an opportunity to deepen the acquired basic theoretical knowledge of the science of criminal law and to acquire a broader scientific and theoretical knowledge of individual criminal law institutes and a deeper understanding of their very essence, as well as their interrelations and links in the existing legal framework, and the process of their formation.

3. “Fruit of the poisonous tree” theory and its application in criminal proceedings;
4. The doctrine of uniformity of criminal proceedings;
5. Limits of conducting defence in criminal proceedings;
6. Limits to the interference with fundamental rights and freedoms by institutes of criminal procedure;
7. Competition between procedural alternatives;
8. Concentration principle;
9. Subject matter and scope of evidence in custodial decision-making;
10. Limits to the application of the ultima ratio principle in custodial surrogate decision-making;
Active participation in lectures and seminars of important domestic and foreign experts organized for doctoral students by the faculty, resp. university
By attending lectures and seminars, the doctoral student deepens his / her knowledge especially in the field of his / her scientific focus by obtaining information and deepening knowledge from important experts working in the relevant fields, which also leads to further personal and professional development of the doctoral student as a future research and pedagogical worker.SK

He has competence to evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses, to plan such work strategies for themselves and those that are appropriate to the set goal.

1. Science and legal science (basic concepts of legal science and science in general).
2. Legal methodology, possibilities and limits of legal methodology, basic principles, including principles of scientific ethics
3. Breakdown of scientific methods with emphasis on the requirements and practice of legal science
4. Methodology of scientific work (choice of topic, working material, search strategy and obtaining an overview)
5. Methodology of drafting thesis (scheme of the thesis, pursuit of the set goal, effective literature processing, elements and structure of the thesis, formal requirements).
By passing this course, the student should be able to identify scientific methods and their breakdown, and to subsequently choose and apply them correctly in solving individual research problems in jurisprudence.
