Selected projects

Project registration number: APVV-21-0485, Slovak Research and Development Agency

Project name: Verba volant scripta manent. Words fly away, written down remains. Karpathen Post - as a source of regional history, language and culture in Spiš at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries

Project implementation period: 2021-2025

Position in the project: project member

Brief description of the project: The aim of the project is to capture the multi-ethnic context of the Spiš region and its inhabitants at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries against the background of the sociolinguistic and sociocultural analysis of the periodical Karpathen Post, with the main emphasis on the German language and culture, while we will rely on the latest theoretical and methodological starting points – as offered by the science of mass media communication. Based on the knowledge gained in this way, the presented project follows two basic parallel lines - sociocultural and sociolinguistic, which will complement each other and result in a comprehensive analysis of the Karpathen Post newspaper against the background of mass media studies with a view to a rigorous analysis of the media environment in which the periodical at the turn of the 19th and 20th century was published.

Project registration number: VVGS-2019-1032

Project name: When the translator "washes with water". Workshop on interferences in translation

Project implementation period: 2019 – 2020

Position in the project: responsible project manager

Brief description of the project: The project aims at the issue of linguistic and linguocultural interference and the communication competence of the examined texts, i. e. the original text versus the translation. At the same time, it concentrates on professional translation, aiming at weaknesses in the translation process and outlines effective measures to optimize it. Using the linguistic analysis of translated texts, consisting of an identical original text translated by various translators, it aims to highlight the most common and most significant lexical-semantic and grammatical interferences at the interlingual level. These are the interventions of the grammatical structures of the source language (German) into the final form of the text in the mother language (Slovak), which have a stylistically disturbing effect on the recipients.
