Selected projects

JUST-2019-AG-DRUGS: SUPPORTING INITIATIVES IN THE FIELD OF DRUGS POLICY (European Commission JUSTICE PROGRAMME). "IMPRESA - Implementing Methamphetamine Prevention Strategies into Action."

from 01/22 to 12/23

Investigator / UPJŠ

Annotation of project

This multidisciplinary, translational project aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the translation processes of best-practice prevention of methamphetamine use. It therefore supports the DG JUSTICE work programme priority of “practical application of drug-related research, and, in particular, addiction research with a view of addressing current challenges and new threats”. Furthermore it addresses action no. 29b of the EU Action Plan on Drugs 2017-2020 aiming to “strengthen the cooperation to tackle the rising trend of stimulant addiction, in particular methamphetamine, between relevant government bodies and the NGO sector, focusing on creating and sharing best practices in preventing the spread from local epidemics”. In order to reduce methamphetamine related harm across Europe and to contribute to preventing a further spread of the methamphetamine epidemic, the project will provide an effective knowledge transfer model for all affected regions in the EU by a) synthesising the latest evidence on methamphetamine use prevention for the selection of the most adequate evidence-based prevention strategies, b) establishing multi-stakeholder partnerships (incl. local authorities, researchers and civil society stakeholders, e.g. service providers and users) in five highly affected EU cities in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Poland and Lithuania to drive the design, implementation and assessment of intervention packages to prevent methamphetamine use, c) tailoring and implementing best practice strategies to prevent methamphetamine use in the five EU pilot cities and d) evaluating translation processes and public health impact of the tailored intervention packages and disseminating results and guidance.

Project APVV-15-0662, The Slovak Research and Development Agency

"Psychological mechanism of risk behavior change of schoolchildren and university students. Risk behavior and migration/emigration intentions."

from 07/16 to 12/20

Investigator

Annotation of project

The aim of the first part of the project is to build on and further develop databased prevention of substance use (SU) among schoolchildren and university students (Solomon four group design will be used to address program effectiveness among schoolchildren and university students). The effectiveness of the universal prevention program of SU Unplugged will be also explored by using comparisons of its implementation with and without booster sessions. Particular attention will be paid to the exploration of the short term and long term effectiveness of the Unplugged program (up to 3 years) also in the context of risk behavior of parents and the context of family processes which will be based on comparative parent-child data. The first part the project follows educational and research activities of the EU-Dap Faculty Network and SPAN/The Science for Prevention Academic Network (our team is a part of these networks) in the field of SU prevention and further develops the research conducted within the project APVV-0253-11. The second part of the project is to focus on the exploration of university students´ intentions regarding migration (national) and emigration (international) and their changes in Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary and other cooperating EU countries in relation risk behavior and personal and environmental resources. This part of the project follows the SLiCE study. The further aim of the second part of the project is to explore opinions about migration and emigration of schoolchildren and their changes in relation risk behavior and their predictors. The project will support research of young researchers, PhD students and aims to disseminate and implement the findings into school practice.

Project VEGA 1/0523/20 The Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and Slovak Academy of Sciences

"Problem behaviour of adolescents. Cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis of the protective and risk factors"

from 01/2019 to 12/2022;

Investigator

Annotation of project:

Problem behaviour of adolescents is reflected in many externalizing and internalizing behaviours. A comprehensive theoretical model of problem behaviour (Jessor, 2018; Lerner, Simi, 2000) emphasizes the existence of broad risk and protective factors of such behaviour on both interpersonal and intrapersonal level. Current trends in problem behaviour research stress the importance of complex models and longitudinal research designs. This project aims to improve the knowledge regarding the factors associated with problem behaviours by (a) applying a longitudinal design and multilevel modelling, (b) broadening the number of intrapersonal and interpersonal factors investigated in relation to problem behaviour in order to achieve a better understanding of the complexity of this behaviour, (c) focusing on a vulnerable group of adolescents in psychological care who manifest high levels of problem behaviour, (d) including data from more informants.

"Intrapersonal and interpersonal factors of change in risk behavior of college students and their emigration intentions."

from 01/15 to 12/17

Investigator

Annotation of project

The aims of the proposed project are: a) to continue with the research regarding life perspective and risk behaviour of university students and focus specifically on the changes of life perspective and risk behaviour within a longitudinal study design in selected EU countries; b) to explore the relationships of the selected intrapersonal and interpersonal factors, attitudes of university students towards living conditions, education and work in Slovakia and other EU countries as well as their intentions to emigrate.
