Project name: Adaptive matrix tests in audiometry and perceptual phonetics Project registration number: 1/0344/21 Grant scheme: Scientific Grant Agency (VEGA) Project implementation period: 1/2021 – 12/2023, Position in the project: Principal investigator Brief description of the project: The project is focused on creating a database of sentence speech tests in the Slovak language. The sentence database is created on the basis of adaptive test matrices, which represent a modern and globally respected principle of creating audiometric tests. Test results based on adaptive matrices allow for verification and comparison of achieved results on a global scale, as well as acceptance by the scientific community and the third sector. |
Project name: Speech audiometry in Romani language Project implementation number: APVV-15-0492 Grant scheme: Agency for the Support of Research and Development Project implementation period: 7/2016 – 12/2019 Position in the project: co-investigator Brief description of the project: The project is focused on the methodology and assembly of the necessary equipment for measuring the degree of recognition of speech information encoded in the language of the Romani ethnic group, in the Romani language. The measurement system will be used to assess the functionality of the hearing system of a Romani patient before and after surgery, when fitting hearing aids, for further research into cochlear implants and their programming and testing, when assessing disability for the needs of the insurance industry, but also in ordinary otolaryngological clinical practice. |
Project title: Anticipatory phonetic strategies for simultaneous and consecutive interpreting Project implementation number: APVV-15-0307 Grant scheme: Agency for the Support of Research and Development Project implementation period: 07/2016 - 06/2020 Project position: project co-investigator Brief description of the project: The study of anticipatory phonetic strategies focuses on anticipatory phonetic phenomena as basic elements of microgenesis. The scope of anticipatory speech strategies extends from the microlevel, i.e. from purely phonetic segments, to the macrolevel of words, sentences and the entire speech utterance. At the microlevel, anticipatory articulatory gestures are understood as the expansion or extension of these gestures to neighboring phonetic segments. At the macrolevel, the extension of anticipatory phenomena goes beyond segments and syllables. Segments and syllables are characterized by prosodic properties, especially intonation patterns, which apply from words to entire sections of sentences. Anticipatory phenomena are inherent in speech production and in speech perception, listeners have learned to use them for adequate and optimal reconstruction of the current linguistic meaning. |
Project title: Innovation of teaching Slovak as a foreign language for a specific purpose by using e-learning educational materials in the context of blended education Project implementation number: VVGS-2020-1487 Grant scheme: VVGS UPJŠ - IPEL: Internal scientific grant system of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice - Institutional support of e-learning Project implementation period: 07/20 - 07/21 Position in the project: co-investigator Brief description of the project: The aim of the project was to make an e-learning audio-workbook available for students of Slovak as a foreign language in the medical environment and to enable distance learning as a support for students' self-study. |
Project title: The role of support tools for early diagnosis and therapy in children with hearing and speech disorders Project implementation number: APVV-22-0261 Grant scheme: Agency for the Support of Research and Development Project implementation period: 07/2023 - 06/2027 Position in the project: co-investigator Brief description of the project: The aim of the project is to investigate aspects of the use of support tools for early diagnosis and therapy in children with hearing and speech disorders. In this context, these are software and web applications developed by the research team and their impact on the early diagnosis of hearing problems in children, comprehension problems, and also software and web applications aimed at implementing speech therapy exercises in the home environment. The basic objectives of the project include the effort to improve diagnostic and therapeutic tools that can be applied in the home environment, without the personal participation of specialized workers (audiologist, speech therapist) so that these tools are easily manageable by parents, or teachers who are in daily contact with a disadvantaged child. The project also aims to create tools (databases, tools, procedures and methodologies) to define the correct way to introduce modern information and communication tools into the process of diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of children with hearing and speech disorders. In this area, the project aims to create speech and image stimuli for the implementation of these diagnostics and therapies in the Slovak and also in the Romani language, given the fact that these are often not available at all (e.g. for the Romani language) or are not available in electronic form. |
