Research project: English Philology Department of Uzhhorod National University Project title: Comparative Lexical Semantics of Related and Unrelated Language Systems: Problems, Methodology and Applied Aspects Implementation period: 03/2022 - 03/2027 Position: Principal investigator. This research project aims to conduct an in-depth study of the words belonging to the languages of different system and structural organization (Ukrainian, English, Hungarian, German, French) and denoting notions of everyday importance (emotions, feelings, actions, properties,etc.). On the basis of the worked out methodology, comparative lexical semantic research of various fragments of lexis in the languages in question will be made, and all possible approaches to their study will be suggested. Quantitative data will be collected from large corpora and available lexicographical sources. Tables and matrices will be constructed to examine correlations between lexical units and their meanings and to determine the semantic space of the words as well as their place, role and function in the vocabulary of both related and unrelated languages. Particular attention will be paid to the comparative research of the words' semantics in order to find out their common and distinctive features and evaluate relations of different kinds between them. On the basis of these language-specific results, we expect to construct lexico-semantic fields and draw conclusions about how related and unrelated languages are structured as well as what mechanisms count for their system peculiarities. |
Research project: English Philology Department of Uzhorod National University Project title: Comparative semantics: theory and practice Implementation period: 01/2018 - 01/2021 Position: Deputy of Principal investigator The project aimed to develop a methodology and investigate both theoretical and practical issues of comparative semantics of the nouns denoting etiquette in Ukrainian, English and Hungarian. In describing their qualitative and quantitative characteristics, much attention was paid to the words' common and distinctive features, their place, role and function in the lexical system of related and unrelated languages as well as various types of connections between them.Language material was collected, analyzed and classified on the basis of different lexicographical sources. On the basis of language analysis results, national-specific character of words' semantics as well as correlation modelling matrices had been revealed. Research project: English Philology Department of Uzhhorod National University Project title: Cross-language and Cross-cultural Communication Implementation period: 01/2017 - 12/2020 Position: Principal investigator The scientific project aimed to investigate meaning, factors, elements and strategies of cross-language and cross-cultural communication, as well as to find out language and cultural similarities and differences in various types of communication. Much attention was paid to both verbal and nonverbal communication, their significance and essential characteristics.Language is the primary means through which people communicate. In cross-cultural interactions, the use of language becomes even more complicated and important because it reflects culture. The main aim of the project was to study the influence of the person's language on communication, to describe cultural meanings that inscribe human behaviour in order to consider pragmatic specificities of correlations between linguistic and cognitive structures in languages of different system and structural organization (Ukrainian, English, Russian, Hungarian, French, German). The project was interdisciplinary and combined research methods of linguistics, sociolinguistics, psychology, teaching methods. Link to a selected publication: Fabian, Myroslava (2019).
