Selected projects

JUST-2019-AG-DRUGS: SUPPORTING INITIATIVES IN THE FIELD OF DRUGS POLICY (European Commission JUSTICE PROGRAMME). "IMPRESA - Implementing Methamphetamine Prevention Strategies into Action."

from 01/22 to 12/23

Principal investigator of the project / UPJŠ

Annotation of project

This multidisciplinary, translational project aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the translation processes of best-practice prevention of methamphetamine use. It therefore supports the DG JUSTICE work programme priority of “practical application of drug-related research, and, in particular, addiction research with a view of addressing current challenges and new threats”. Furthermore it addresses action no. 29b of the EU Action Plan on Drugs 2017-2020 aiming to “strengthen the cooperation to tackle the rising trend of stimulant addiction, in particular methamphetamine, between relevant government bodies and the NGO sector, focusing on creating and sharing best practices in preventing the spread from local epidemics”. In order to reduce methamphetamine related harm across Europe and to contribute to preventing a further spread of the methamphetamine epidemic, the project will provide an effective knowledge transfer model for all affected regions in the EU by a) synthesising the latest evidence on methamphetamine use prevention for the selection of the most adequate evidence-based prevention strategies, b) establishing multi-stakeholder partnerships (incl. local authorities, researchers and civil society stakeholders, e.g. service providers and users) in five highly affected EU cities in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Poland and Lithuania to drive the design, implementation and assessment of intervention packages to prevent methamphetamine use, c) tailoring and implementing best practice strategies to prevent methamphetamine use in the five EU pilot cities and d) evaluating translation processes and public health impact of the tailored intervention packages and disseminating results and guidance.

Project APVV-15-0662, The Slovak Research and Development Agency

"Psychological mechanism of risk behavior change of schoolchildren and university students. Risk behavior and migration/emigration intentions."

from 07/16 to 12/20

Principal investigator of the project

Annotation of project

The aim of the first part of the project is to build on and further develop databased prevention of substance use (SU) among schoolchildren and university students (Solomon four group design will be used to address program effectiveness among schoolchildren and university students). The effectiveness of the universal prevention program of SU Unplugged will be also explored by using comparisons of its implementation with and without booster sessions. Particular attention will be paid to the exploration of the short term and long term effectiveness of the Unplugged program (up to 3 years) also in the context of risk behavior of parents and the context of family processes which will be based on comparative parent-child data. The first part the project follows educational and research activities of the EU-Dap Faculty Network and SPAN/The Science for Prevention Academic Network (our team is a part of these networks) in the field of SU prevention and further develops the research conducted within the project APVV-0253-11. The second part of the project is to focus on the exploration of university students´ intentions regarding migration (national) and emigration (international) and their changes in Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary and other cooperating EU countries in relation risk behavior and personal and environmental resources. This part of the project follows the SLiCE study. The further aim of the second part of the project is to explore opinions about migration and emigration of schoolchildren and their changes in relation risk behavior and their predictors. The project will support research of young researchers, PhD students and aims to disseminate and implement the findings into school practice.

Project VEGA 1/0371/20, The Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and Slovak Academy of Sciences

"Trends in the prevalence of adolescent risk behaviour. School based randomized control trial aimed at the prevention of adolescent substance use in the Slovak Republic."

from 01/20 to 12/23

Principal investigator of the project

Annotation of project

The main aims of this project are: (i) to explore the effect of time (baseline and four followups carried out over a period of 22 months) on risk behaviour among schoolchildren in primary schools and to compare the trends in their risk behaviour using two databases of sixth and seventh graders. (ii) to contribute to Prevention and Inter vention Science by exploiting two large and unique datasets containing data on the effectiveness of the Unplugged program on schoolchildren´s risk behaviour. These datasets contain data on different target groups, with varying program design of program imp lementation; fidelity of the program implementation.(iii) to explore the associations between risk behaviour and intentions to study abroad among secondary school students and other factors related to these intentions.
