Mechanisms of Democracy's Self-Defense: The Concept of Militant Democracy in the Slovak Context

Project implementation period:

09/25-09/29

Status in the project:

Co-researcher

Brief characteristics of the project:

The concept of militant democracy is not sufficiently represented in the social and behavioral sciences in Slovakia, even though it is directly related to previous paradigms concerning the crisis of representative democracy, postmodernism, and post-democracy. The primary objectives of the interdisciplinary team within this project are: (1) to identify the historical and intellectual sources of the scientific paradigm of militant democracy itself and to describe its stages of development; (2) to analyze the causes and identify the forms, instruments, institutions, and processes of defending democracy within the context of selected political systems around the world and, in particular, within the context of the Slovak Republic.

Name of the project:

Digital Balance - Moderating Illegal Content and Resolving Disputes on Digital Platforms

Project implementation period:

09/25-09/29

Status in the project:

Co-researcher

Brief characteristics of the project:

Digital platforms are rapidly permeating all areas of life. In addition to their undeniable benefits, they also give rise to various undesirable phenomena. The European legislature has responded to this phenomenon with new regulations in the Digital Services Act, which is based on the principle that “what is illegal offline must also be illegal online.” The rapidly changing digital environment requires a flexible and targeted response when addressing all types of complaints. Therefore, the project is focused on supporting the implementation of Article 21 of the Act, which governs out-of-court dispute resolution for disputes arising on digital platforms. This is an entirely new area of regulation that is in the early stages of implementation in the European Union and requires methodological support and, above all, the integration of legal, ethical, and IT perspectives on the issue. The project’s goal is to create a comprehensive expert platform that will support decision-making by the lead contractor—a certified body for out-of-court dispute resolution on digital platforms—and provide support to operators and users of digital platforms in line with European trends.

Internationalisation, Innovation and Modernisation of a Modular Education in Political Science

Obdobie realizácie projektu:

01/25-12/27

Status in the project:

Co-researcher

Stručná charakteristika projektu:

The main goal of the project is to internationalise, innovate and modernise the education in political science at the Faculty of Arts of UPJŠ and in order to adapt to the new forms of teaching- to at the same time complement the classical forms of teaching with new educational approaches. The aim of the project is to reform the teaching process (both the content itself and the ways of teaching) of the study programme in political science, which, through the module Theory of Politics and the newly created module International Relations within the Bachelor's and Master's degree programme, allows students to focus on a more narrowly defined area of political science research through the selection of classes within the module. The goal is thus to modernise the teaching of political science using interactive and e-learning tools, but also to prepare new electronic educational tools, such as textbooks for selected classes, which are offered to students within the newly created module International Relations. The aim of the project is also the internationalization of an education process by lectures of foreign and domestic experts, that will offer new knowledge and skills to students. The aim of the project is also to modernise the teaching of Erasmus students/foreign students using interactive and e-learning tools, as well as the preparation of electronic educational tool - a teaching text for Erasmus students/foreign students. The experience of the project researchers in solving problems and preparing textbooks within the KEGA, RIFIV and IRES projects is a guarantee of the fulfilment of the project objectives and success.

Name of the project:

Instrumentalisation of Historical Events as a Subject of Recodification Schemes in Political and Propaganda Practice in Slovakia after 1989 (Selected Aspects of Ethnic Relations)

Project implementation period:

01/25-12/27

Status in the project:

Co-researcher

Brief characteristics of the project:

The aim of the project is to carry out political science and historical research on the instrumentalisation of selected historical events with a focus on some aspects of ethnic relations in Slovakia. We will investigate their use as a tool of politics (governmental, party, regional) in political and propaganda practice in Slovakia after 1989. In particular, the researchers will examine the interpretation of historical events in the context of significant events in domestic (elections, changes of governments, ethnic political parties) and foreign politics (Slovakia's accession to the EU and NATO, the war in Ukraine). The research team will examine the way in which these historical events are instrumentalised, commemorated and used in politics (governmental, party, regional) and the role played by the interpretation of historical events and their commemoration (monuments and memorials, public rallies, political conflicts).
