Anticipation Phonetic Strategies for Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting

Project was focused on studying prosodic anticipation patterns in interpreting from French to Slovak. Experimental research dealt with perception evaluation tests, acoustic analyses and speech recognition techniques. Preliminary results obtained from the project indicate that the rising melody on the last syllable of the rhythmic group along with the subsequent pause plays an important role in signalling a significant semantic information contained in the following rhythmic group. Interpreters from the French into the Slovak language should be able to recognize the prosodic anticipation prompts to use them in strategic decisions. The project generated a conceptual model joining phonetic, syntactic and semantic levels as a kind of "mental software" to optimize the interpreter´s performance.
