Grant scheme: 1/0447/20 Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, science, research and sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences Project title: Global and local in postmillennial Anglophone literatures, cultures and media. VVGS-2022-2435 Internal Research Grant System of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice Perception of the USA at Secondary and Higher Education Institutions in the Eastern Slovak Region through Local and Global Media 01/2023-12/2024 Investigator. Project summary: This project focuses on analyzing the cultural perception of contemporary USA by the students of English bilingual secondary schools in the Eastern Slovakia region. Due to the current geopolitical and sociocultural atmosphere, as well as in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible to see increasingly critical attitudes in Slovakia towards the policy and culture of the United States, as well as an increase in the perception of the Russian Federation as a strategic partner to the Slovak Republic. In this project, a team of researchers with experience from a wide scope of cultural, literary and media analyzes will examine these attitudes and their sources with the goal of revealing the students’ perception of the fast-changing global sociocultural atmosphere and of the global media. Main project outputs: 1. Dissemination and popularisation seminar on the project outputs, 2024. 2. Three publications of project investigators. |

VEGA – Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences Project Title: Post-postmodern Approaches to the Depiction of Urban and Rural Space in Contemporary Anglophone Fiction Project Duration: 01/2025 – 12/2027 Position in the Project: Deputy Principal Investigator The project focuses on the depiction of space in contemporary Anglophone literature (English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Canadian, American, and Australian). It examines current approaches to the representation of space characterized by a return to pre-postmodern narrative techniques and aesthetic strategies. These returns are analysed in terms of their function in depicting urban and rural landscapes and shaping the reader’s perceptual experience. The project also explores the role of perspective in the phenomenological rendering of place, verifying the presence of metamodern sensibility (van den Akker et al.) and contributing to research on contemporary literary and ecocritical approaches to the depiction of space.
