Prof. MUDr. Ivan Schréter, CSc., is a professor in the field of internal medicine. He has been working at the Faculty of Medicine since 1981. He held the position as the head of the department of infectiology and travel medicine during the years 1990 to 2020. Today, he’s holding the position of the assistant professor at the same clinic. During his tenure as the head of the department he was responsible for teaching 11 subjects taught at the clinic. After repeated successful accreditations of the department, he is a guarantor of specialized study in the field of Infectology. Since 1997, he has also been holding the position of the chief expert of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic for Infectology and Tropical Medicine, he is a member of the Pandemic Commission of the Government of Slovak Republic. Within the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, he also worked In the Central Antibiotic Commission, the Immunization Commission and the Commission for Drug Categorization. In the field of scientific research, he primarily focuses on addressing various aspects in the field of viral hepatitis. He participated in multiple grant projects as the responsible researcher and co-researcher. The most important outputs were the publications regarding hepatitis C prevalence, incidence of TTV and SEN infections, as well as findings about the presence and nature of hepatitis E virus infections. Most of his postgraduate students continued and/or continue the research in the field of viral hepatitis. Nine of them already successfully finished their studies. He is the author or co-author of 349 scientific works which were cited 249 times (in Web of Science and SCOPUS).
