Prof. MUDr. Jana Kaťuchová, PhD., MBA, is a professor of surgery and a Head of the 1st Department of Surgery. She is the chairwoman of the UPJŠ Academic Senate, a member of the UPJŠ LF Academic Senate, and a member the Košice Self-Governing Region Ethics Committee. She is a co-guarantor in the doctoral study program Surgery in general study medicine; together, she is a co-guarantor of the specialized study of surgery and the guarantor of gastroenterological surgery. She was the supervisor of 6 successfully defended doctoral theses in the study program surgery, 43 diploma theses, and 2 rigorous theses. As part of her research activities, she is engaged in researching mesenchymal stem cells and the possibility of their use in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, in the possibility of liver regeneration in case of liver damage, and after extensive resections. Another research project examines new opportunities for diagnosing pancreatic and colon cancers at an early stage using biomarkers of the urokinase system and matrix metalloproteinases. He participates in the solution of several basic and applied research projects. She is the author/co-author of 75 original scientific (16 in CC, WoS, or Scopus) and professional papers published in foreign and domestic journals, textbooks, books, and monographs, cited 169 times, of which 129 times in WoS / Scopus citation indexes.
