Selected projects

(EN) VEGA project no. 1/0748/22 Behavioral innovations in the management of overweight and obesity in the adult population (01/2022 - 12/2024), investigator. The main aim of the project is to identify potential antecedents and barriers to behavioural change in weight management. The intent is also to describe the extent to which body weight and weight management attitudes are the result of a person's personal resources and behaviors-understanding of the problem, motivation, support, and self-control. The knowledge gained can streamline interventions and innovate practices that can help both patients and health professionals in improving health status at the population level.

(EN) KEGA project no. 010UPJŠ-4/2021 Implementation of multimedia technologies in teaching preventive interventions in medical and non-medical disciplines (01/2021 - 12/2023), investigator for the year 2023. The project represents the use of innovative multimedia technologies in practical and theoretical teaching of medical, medical and non-medical students, especially students of general medicine, public health, nursing, physiotherapy and dentistry. It is aimed at the creation, introduction, application and implementation of multimedia technologies in the teaching of university students, which will enable the creation of interventional procedures in the occurrence and prevention of chronic non-infectious as well as infectious diseases, with a focus on cardiovascular diseases. The project will increase the knowledge, skills and abilities of students from different medical disciplines and modernise the profile of graduates. The project will introduce and implement practices in population as well as individual prevention interventions.

(EN) APVV-15-0719: Longitudinal Research on Psychosocial Innovations in Chronic Disease Management (LORICCOM) 2016-2020, investigator. The main aim of this multidisciplinary research project is to gain knowledge in the field of effective chronic disease management and options for improvements in patients’ quality of life. The project is envisaged to: effectively support people to maximise their self-care and self-management capabilities; improve adherence to treatment regimen and reduce healthcare demand; raise awareness about integrated care and chronic condition management; develop and promote a suite of products and psychosocial innovation tools designed to respond to the chronic disease challenge; and to identify and test culturally appropriate self-management programmes. This knowledge will facilitate evidence-based decision-making concerning innovative models of healthcare delivery.

(EN) VVGS-2021-1862: Development of critical thinking in teaching process via electronic mind map. Nowadays the orientation of school education to the amount of memorized information still dominates. Higher cognitive processes as part of critical thinking are not firmly developed or accurately appreciated. The curricular reform in the Slovak Republic has officially created space for the development of one of the most required qualities of the future, namely the development of critical thinking. This creates an opportunity for students and teachers to receive and evaluate knowledge, clarify concepts and ideas, look for different perspectives and alternative approaches to problem solving. The concept of critical thinking in academia is not new, but there are no strategies and activities aimed at developing critical thinking among students (Derňárová, 2018, Duchovičová, 2017, Turek, 2003). A suitable teaching strategy is a mind map that develops and improves cognitive functions, supports critical thinking, facilitates the transition from theory to practice, and ultimately strengthens students' self-confidence. The benefit and importance of creating an electronic mind map as a method of teaching subjects in e-learning education is determined by evaluating a comprehensive overview of students' knowledge with the creation of their own critical judgment. Online active interaction between teacher and student visualizes the content of the curriculum and identifies gaps in students' knowledge. The aim of the project is to develop and support critical thinking among students in the educational process by co-creating the complex content of the curriculum through an electronic mind map in selected subjects. Key words in English: electronic mind maps, critical thinking, e-learning, students.
