Prof. MVDr. Monika Halánová, PhD. is a professor of Epidemiology and concurrenlty the Head of the Department of Epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice At present, she also works in the position of Vice-Dean for Grants, Development and International Relations at this Faculty. In addition to teaching activities, in research activities she focus mainly on the issue of infectious and opportunistic diseases. She completed study stays in several laboratories focused on the diagnosis of infectious and parasitic diseases. She participates in the design and preparation of curricula for medical students in the field of Epidemiology and Public health. She is the Person Responsible for the Study Program and Chairwoman of the PhD study program - Epidemiology in the field of study General Medicine and a member of another 4 committees of PhD study. She was, or is, a tutor of 9 students (4 successfully completed their studies) and a consultant of 3 students.She has a significant share in the solution of grant projects (especially VEGA, KEGA, but also APVV, Horizon 2020, EU projects) focusing mainly on epidemiology and of infectious diseases, to this time is a researcher of 28 scientific and research projects in position as principal investigator, deputy principal investigator, or scientific co-worker. In 2020, she started works as national coordinator of the project “DisCoVery within EU-RESPONSE” financed from the European Union program for research and innovation Horizon 2020. She was also head of the working group for Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Faculty of Medicine, which is participating in the preparation of a new international study program, MSc. in Migrant Health: Addressing New Challenges in Europe. She is the author or co-author of more than 400 original scientific (80 in CC, WoS or Scopus) and professional papers published in foreign and domestic journals, textbooks, books and monographs, which have been cited more than 590 times (HI = 14, according to the Web of Science). She is the head of the accredited laboratory for COVID-19 diagnostics.
