Prof. MUDr. Pavol Jarčuška, Ph.D. is a professor of Public Health and the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine at the UPJŠ Medical Faculty in Košice. Since 1996, he has been the head of the Care Center for HIV-positive people at Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Košice. In 1999 - 2002 and 2010 - 2011 he was a member of the Categorization Commission for Antibiotics and Vaccines of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. In 2002 - 2003, 2006 - 2010 Vice-Chairman of the Categorization Commission for Antibiotics and Vaccines of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. In 2004 - 2010 he was a member of the working group of the Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic for therapeutic - diagnostic - laboratory disciplines, since 2005 a Member of the Advisory Board of the Health Care Supervision Office. In 2006 - 2012 he was a member of the Immunization Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, in 2007 - 2013 a Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ. Since 2015, he has been the Vice-Rector for Development and European Affairs of UPJŠ in Košice. Since 2011 he has been the president of the Slovak Society of Infectologist of SLS. Since 2020 he has been the vice-president of the Slovak Chemotherapeutic Society SLS and since 2012 he has been a member of Presidium of SLS. In 2019 - 2020 he was the executive director of the Center for Preclinical and Clinical Research of the Faculty of Medicine UPJŠ in Košice - MediPark (in charge of management). In 2015 - 2021 he was the chairman of the Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic for further education of health care workers. Since 2009 he has been the chairman of the Central Commission for Rational Anti-Infectious Treatment and Antibiotic Policy of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. He is and was a member of eight scientific councils of universities and scientific institutions. During the COVID 19 pandemic, he worked as a member of the Council of Experts at the Office of the Government of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Health, a member of the Pandemic Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic and especially as a member of the Scientific Advisory Platform of the European Commission. He is the guarantor for the PhD study program of Public Health. He was the supervisor of 17 diploma theses. As part of his research activities, he is studying COVID-19. He participates in solving several basic and applied research projects. He is the author or. co-author of 425 scientific (73 in CC, WoS or Scopus) and professional papers published in foreign and domestic journals, textbooks, books and monographs, which have been cited more than 552 times in WoS / Scopus citation indices. He is the author of the book News in Infectious Diseases and co-author of the book Current Pharmacotherapeutics. X, Macrolide and azalide antibiotics. The SCOPUS H index is 13.
