a) - The institution defines the learning objectives of the study programme such as student's abilities at the time of completion of the programme and the main learning outcomes.

The objectives of education are achieved in the study programme through measurable learning outcomes in individual parts (modules, subjects) of the study programme. They correspond to the relevant level of the Qualifications Framework in the European Higher Education Area (not available in English)

 Knowledge 

 The PhD. graduate has a systematic and comprehensive set of knowledge in the field of political science. The student can independently solve problems in their field of study and propose solutions. Graduate can present the results of his/her work professionally and apply them convincingly through argumentation. Graduate is able to work effectively as a member of a team and can organise the work of a small team. Is characterised by independence in solving specific problems in a ever-changing environment, planning his/her own studies, autonomy and responsibility in decision making, creative and flexible thinking, and the ability to present the results of his/her work and his/her own opinions appropriately and professionally. He/she has a deep understanding of the theories, sophisticated methods and practices of science and research in the field of political science and at a level appropriate to international criteria. He/she is able to study the literature and present the results of his/her research in at least one world language. 

 Skills 

 The graduate is able to acquire new knowledge and information in an active way. In processing and evaluating the information obtained, he/she determines the appropriate methods and maintains the principles of an objective and critical approach to it He/she perceives the phenomena and processes against the background of the history of the research discipline and in the context of the research results of other research disciplines. Is able to take a qualified professional opinion on the activities and processes carried out in the field of political science and, if necessary, to recommend a more up-to-date and appropriate solution or to develop and implement a related project. Apply the acquired knowledge and information in a creative way in order to develop theories and innovate methodological procedures in the field of political science. He/she is characterised by the ability to communicate his/her research in a cultivated manner and to present it both domestically and internationally. Understands the moral, social, legal and economic determinants of the field of study. Independently and at a high scientific and communicative level, he/she presents the results of his/her research to the professional community in the Slovak Republic and abroad. He/she is able to determine the focus of research and coordinate a team in the relevant scientific field, develop and implement an international research project, and respect the principles of ethics of scientific work. Can use modern information, communication, computer and multimedia technology in his/her work. 

 Competences 

 The graduate is able to acquire the latest knowledge of the content areas, mainly determined by the focus of his/her dissertation, but also knowledge from the field of political science. He/she is able to acquire the basics of independent and team scientific work, scientific research and problem formulation. He/she is able to develop the habits of systematically following the latest scientific production in his/her field, including in a foreign language through various sources. He/she is able to develop habits of updating his/her knowledge through lifelong learning. The graduate can process, publish and present scientific results by other methods and disseminate political science knowledge in a popularising way. He/she is prepared for pedagogical and scientific research work at the university. He/she is able to plan and initiate solutions to complex problems and is able to apply himself/herself in politically oriented research of an academic nature, in university and other pedagogical activities and in applied fields. The graduate has versatile communication skills in at least one world language. Proficiency in soft skills.

PhD study administration is provided by Department of Science, Research, Qualification, Doctoral Studies, and International Relations of the Faculty of Arts using the AiS2. The student shall be able to efficiently handle most of the agenda through the information system, without direct interaction with the desk officer.

The University Counselling Centre (UNIPOCis another important support component. It is a specialised unit of UPJŠ established by the UPJŠ Rector with University-wide competence. The University Counselling Centre's mission is to provide free counselling to all the students of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, specifically psychological, career, legal, and social counselling and counselling in effective learning. The University Counselling Centre is also in charge of supporting and caring for students with special needs. Students may use counselling services in both personal and online forms, in Slovak and in English. The purpose of the services provided is improving the employability of students and graduates in the labour market, acting preventively, and helping with problems that could jeopardize the successful completion of our students' studies. UNIPOC also provides support for students with special needs, Councelling services, and Carreer services.

UPJŠ also offers studentsaccommodation and catering services through UPJŠ Student Hostel and Canteen through UPJŠ Student Dormitories and Canteens or at contractual partners. The accommodation subsystem is part of AiS2, catering in Student Dormitories and Canteens is administered by a separate information system which is integrated within the UIS UPJŠ.

8. - Spatial, material, and technical provision of the study programme and support
a) - List and characteristics of the study programme classrooms and their technical equipment with the assignment to learning outcomes and courses (laboratories, design and art studios, studios, workshops, interpreting booths, clinics, priest seminaries, science and technology parks, technology incubators, school enterprises, practice centers, training schools, classroom-training facilities, sports halls, swimming pools, sports grounds).

UPJŠ provides spatial, material, technical, and information resources of the study programme separately for each seat in which the study programme takes place, in proportion to the objectives and outcomes of education. Ensuring a full-fledged infrastructure supporting higher education, creative scientific research and research itself is one of the University priorities. The constant progress of the University is also reflected in the continuous expansion of the existing infrastructure, the reconstruction of buildings and the introduction of modern information and communication technologies.

The existence of the University units is essential for ensuring the required quality of selected services which are characteristic of a respected and materially well-equipped university.

Teaching takes place in lecture halls and seminar rooms which are equipped with computer technology, data projector, webcam, sound system, the Internet connection and software by way of standard, enabling online connection to teaching. An interactive whiteboard is also available in some of the classrooms. All the study programmes have a computer room equipped with computer technology, data projector, the Internet connection, interactive whiteboard, and SPSS statistical software.

There are computer stations with the Internet connection and the Intranet which are freely accessible for students in the premises of the buildings where the teaching takes place at the relevant faculty. Students have access to the Eduroam wifi network throughout the campus.

Other areas:

    • Digital interpreting laboratory is used for special teaching of simultaneous interpreting techniques. The professional fully digital interpreting laboratory is managed by a teaching desk. The lecturer's workplace is equipped with a special lecturer's server with a virtual lecturer's control panel (with the possibility of PC mouse control) and a lecturer's desk (which has rotary controls for sound regulation in the lecturer's headphones and the lecturer's headphones and also contains connectors for connecting both headphones). The interpreting laboratory also consists of a digital control and power supply unit and digital interpreting desks - consoles (located in the interpreting booths, 2 in each booth). The system has an integrated communication module for mass and individual communication with interpreting students. Another part of the interpreting laboratory is wireless signal transmission to participants (digital IR transmitter, digital IR emitter, digital IR receivers), digital conference microphones with received channels being interpreted, recording audio equipment (professional 8-channel digital audio recorder, student cabin digital audio recorders), and other accessories. The equipment provides the teacher with the opportunity to read the interpreted texts or play them from the database of speeches on the Internet. There are 8 booths in the laboratory, its total capacity is 16 students and allows training of all the skills needed for simultaneous interpretation.

The main mission of the University unitUniversity Library (UK) as an information unit of the University, is participating in the information provision of teaching and scientific research activities of its staff and students, creating the conditions for the support of the educational process and an inspiring environment for its users. The UL fulfils this mission bymaking creative use of information resources and technologies, providing, documents, information and consultation,expertise staff and facilities to support teaching, learning and research. Library information services are documented on the site University Library.

UPJŠ operates the Publishing house ŠafárikPress UPJŠ (only in slovak). The publishing house is involved in spreading awareness of the possibilities of electronic publishing at the University. The Unibook portal provides a permanent repository of electronic documents, an archive of all the publications released and also modern possibilities for purchasing book publications by UPJŠ staff via the standard e-shop web interface e-shopu (https://unibook.upjs.sk/sk/).

To support comprehensive education management at all three levels of higher education the  AiS2 and Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CIaKT) UPJŠ in Košice is used as a University-wide information unit which covers the activities of information and communication technologies inside UPJŠ, but also outside in relation to its surroundings. The CIaKT UPJŠ university node is also a regional node of the SANET (Slovak Academic Network).

In addition to the University infrastructure, the students of the study programme have at their disposal a complex background in the form of the State Scientific Library in Košice, the Košice Institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the East Slovak Museum in Košice, etc. The Department Information Centre with the Internet access and book donations from sponsors (US Embassy, graduates, Department staff) is also available to students.

Educational activities at UPJŠ, which are provided by distance or combined methods, are sufficiently supported and protected. The study programme consists of two basic components - the study one and the scientific one. The basis of teaching in the study component is in full-time education, the scientific component is dominated by distance learning which is based on the nature of research in the field of study British and American Studies (study of library collections, work with corpora, study of professional texts, visit to specialised institutions, etc.). We also consider the possibility of taking part in the distance individual consultations as effective. It is possible to use a license for programmes from the MS Office 365 package and the UPJŠ e-learnig portal UPJŠ for distance learning. The specific scope of distance learning is decided mainly by the PWD in cooperation with the relevant supervisor of the PhD student concerned. A Portal is available with support for eLearning and Distance learning.

The University strives to link knowledge with practice, which is supported by strong ties with important partners and organisations. The partners are officially associated in the Career Club UPJŠ.

e) - Characteristics of the possibilities for social, sports, cultural, spiritual and social activities.

The development of UPJŠ students is provided not just by quality education, but also by social, sport, cultural, spiritual, and social activities during their studies. The university covers and supports študentské organizácie (only in Slovak) a študentské záujmové združenia (only in Slovak). UPJŠ publishes the official university magazine Universitas Šafarikiana (only in Slovak), which regularly informs about events on campus. As a means of internal communication, but also with the ambition to bring life at UPJŠ closer to the general public, the university also operates Študentský rozhlas (only in Slovak) and Uni TV UPJŠ (only in Slovak).

Sports activities for UPJŠ students are provided by the Institute of Physical Education and Sport at P. J. Šafarik University (ÚTVŠ).This offers a choice of 21 sports through the subject Sports Activities. Students can play sports not only within the compulsory or optional subject, but also beyond the credit form. In addition to the offered physical activities, students can participate in the university league in 4 sports (futsal, flotball, basketball, volleyball). The traditional addition to the ÚTVŠ offer are winter and summer courses (ski course, survival, cycling course, rafting on the river Tisza and exercise by the sea). Students who do not have enough sports activities offered by ÚTVŠ can also apply for a much wider range of sports offered by TJ Slávia UPJŠ. tj-slavia-upjs-kosice/). There are 5 gyms available for students' sports, most of which have undergone a major renovation in recent years. The gym is equipped for the needs of various levels - from beginners to advanced and is regularly supplemented and innovated. In addition, there are 4 tennis courts and 3 multifunctional concrete courts in the ÚTVŠ building, which students use mainly for sports games.

f) - Possibilities and conditions for participation of the study programme students in mobilities and internships (indicating contact details), application instructions, rules for recognition of this education.

The university enables and supports education outside UPJŠ in domestic and foreign institutions. Student international mobility is an essential area of the university's international relations. All important information about the possibilities of mobility and internships for university students is published on the following websites: international relations.

After successfully passing the dissertation examination, the student may apply for a grant internship (Erasmus).

Comprehensive information on the offer of mobility and internships and the selection process is available on the University website. The University uses the  AiS2 and portal tools developed within the Erasmus without paper.

The AiS2 and the EWP are gradually integrated into a single functional unit. The conditions for the recognition of completed studies are regulated by Doctoral Study Regulations UPJŠ.

FA UPJŠ students have open opportunities to participate in mobility for the purpose of study and internships with regular updates on the Erasmus+The FA UPJŠ has currently almost 180 bilateral agreements validly concluded with over 100 universities from 24 countries within the Erasmus+ programme. Since 2015, UPJŠ has been participating in the Erasmus+ programme with partner countries outside the EU every year. Agreements with universities in Albania, Georgia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan are currently in force. The Vice-Dean for International Relations is the Erasmus+ Coordinator. At the same time, each department has a designated departmental Erasmus+ coordinator. In cooperation with the Department for International Relations of the UPJŠ FA, UPJŠ announces selection procedures for student mobility by publishing a call on the Faculty website. Department of Political science enables and supports education outside UPJŠ at domestic and foreign institutions. a) - Procedures for monitoring and evaluating students' opinions on the study programme quality.

Quality indicators at UPJŠ and its constituent parts.

Within the study programme, each teacher evaluates the feedback from students individually, while once a semester the feedback obtained in this way is evaluated at a joint meeting of teachers and at a meeting of the trade union commission. In addition to these options, students can express their opinion by completing a questionnaire in the Academic Information System (AiS2). The results are submitted to the faculty management and published on the faculty website.

b) - Results of student feedback and related measures to improve the study programme quality.

Specific measures to enhance the quality of the study program based on the results of conducted surveys are documented in the minutes of the meetings of the Subject Committee and the Study Program Boards. These minutes are archived in the Study Program Monitoring Panel within AiS2. c) - Results of graduate feedback and related measures to improve the study programme quality.

The University and its Faculties carry out questionnaire surveys on the employment of University graduates with the aim of improving the profile of the graduate, closer connection of studies with practice, and improving the position of graduates in the labour market.
