Tomáš Petras, MD works as a researcher at the Medical Education Centre, Faculty of Medicine UPJŠ. As part of his work, he focuses on the strategy of the centre's activities, the creation and implementation of the annual working plan and international partnerships. Since 2023, he has been working as an assessor of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), where he participated in successful audits abroad. He also serves as a panel member of the International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE) ASPIRE awards, namely AMEE ASPIRE Award: Excellence in Social Accountability and AMEE ASPIRE Award: Excellence in Inspirational and Innovative Approaches to Health Professions Education. During his studies, he was engaged in the topic of medical education at local, national and international level. As the national coordinator of the standing committee on medical education of the Slovak Medical Students’ Association (SoMSA) he established contact with Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (SAAHE), on the topic of quality assurance in medical education. Within the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) he served as the director of the Standing Committee on Medical Education and jointly coordinated with an international team a framework for student activities focused on medical education for more than 1.3 million medical students from more than 130 countries. For more than 3 years, he has been actively contributing with presentations at the AMEE conference on the topic of quality assurance in medical education, meaningful students’ engagement, interprofessional education and social accountability in medical education.
